What To Know About Water Fountains

By Casandra Newton

Water fountains are devices that are used for entertainment, decoration or to supply drinking water. These structures may jet the water into the air for decoration or dramatic effect or pour it into a basin. These architectural structures come in many forms and have been used for centuries. In the past, they only served a functional purpose and were attached to springs or aqueducts to provide H20 to areas of residence.

When these were first developed, the source of the H20 needed to be higher up because the structure relied solely on gravity to move the flow of liquid. Now, there are various technologies and devices that are employed to move the liquid efficiently. In modern times, the devices are employed for decoration and entertainment, as well as drinking. Examples: musical fountains and splash pads.

Drinking models, also known as bubblers, are made to supply people with clean H20 that they can drink. These can be placed indoors or outdoors. Most include a basin and running water or a tap. Users will drink from the stream of liquid that comes from the fountain. Bubblers are often present at public spaces: libraries, resting spots, parks and schools.

Generally, these devices range in their size, purpose and design. Splash, musical and bathing models are primarily for entertainment. The musical kind use music, spouts that have been programmed, jets, H20 and light to create short performances. Splash pads are an alternative to the pool and are a great way for people to cool off in hot temperatures. These are build with multiple jets that shoot liquid into the air and non-slip surfaces for safety.

Some people add these devices to their home or yard for art-related purposes. They act as decoration and may be used for their ability to calm people. In fact, the sound of water is known to relax people. The types placed in homes are usually small. Outdoor versions tend to be large in size and may serve as a bathing or drinking spot for wildlife.

Many modern structures of this sort use filters to remove particles that may be present. The filters often require some form of plumbing system and pumps. Sometimes there is a need for anti-algal treatment or chlorine. Other possible parts: electrical switchboxes, float pumps, chambers, computer systems, filters, plumbing controls, lighting, and pumps.

Regardless of their usage, a fountain should maintain optimal water quality. Even units that serve merely for decoration and are not for drinking or bathing should be safe. In certain jurisdictions, owners of fountains may be held responsible for the safety and cleanliness of these structures.

Water fountains are designed in many different ways. They may be small or large, installed for decoration or function, or installed inside or outside. These structures have evolved since they were first used centuries ago. They no longer rely on gravity to move the liquid to where it must go. Instead, pumps and various other parts and technology used to make them work. In general, these devices are used for one of three things: drinking, decoration or entertainment.
