The Path To Follow For Stress-Free Travel

By Steve David

Taking the bus is by far the worst from of transportation. It is smelly and so are the people who you have to put up with rather than if you would drive your car or take a plane ride and also you have no room and it doesn't take you right where you want.

Once you've chosen your destination, take the time to get to know more about where you're going. Purchase a decent map of the city or region where you plan to travel, and spend time looking over the environs, major sightseeing areas and museums. Memorizing a bit about your environment will make it that much easier to navigate when you arrive.

If you're going on a road trip, bring an extra gallon of water with you. While you may think to bring bottled water, you probably wouldn't think of bringing a jug. A gallon of water can be useful for brushing your teeth, washing sticky stuff off your hands, etc. You never know when you may need to wash your hands and not be close to a rest stop or worse, to be near a disgusting rest stop.

Be aware of the culture about questions and lack of knowledge in the countries you travel to. In some places, especially India and Asia, it can be considered very rude to tell someone that you don't know the answer to their question. Others may simply answer "yes" to any question asked in English. Pay attention to doubtful body language.

If you will be on vacation for a week or longer, double check if there will be a laundry facility on site. If there will be then you can pack a little lighter and be able to throw in a load of laundry instead when you are there. Since airlines do charge for overweight luggage, it is nice to try to pack lighter.

Thinking about planning a vacation? It may surprise you to know that the days you select to travel can result in a huge savings...or a huge expense. If you fly on the weekend, the ticket price is generally much higher than it is during the week. Consider arriving or departing on a Monday or a Thursday instead.

If you are traveling with your children in the car, give them the opportunity to sit in your seat. Your child will feel special and enjoy getting some quality time sitting with the driver. It will also keep the trip exciting for both the adults and the kids.

If you travel frequently and use rental cars, join the car rental company's loyalty club. It will save you a lot of time waiting in long lines waiting for a car. It will also save you the hassle of having to fill out the same paperwork over and over again when you rent your car.

As you can see, there are many possibilities. The dream of travel can be fulfilled by a combination of accumulating the resources needed, by careful planning and by a good knowledge of the destination you choose. Then, when you return home, you will have wonderful memories to sustain you--until the next trip!
