How to experience Tenerife's wildlife

By Gwen Douglas

Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands which belong to Spain and sit off of the coast of Africa. Because of this location, the island has a fantastic warm climate for the entire year and attracts and is home to a huge array of different wildlife. As well as the tropical birds which come from Africa, Tenerife is also frequented by pigeons and blackbirds from much cooler northern European countries.

For people who want to experience the huge amount of wildlife on the island, there are a number of different ways for them to do so. There are parks which are protective environments for a number of animals but much of the wildlife can be found wherever people travel on the island. The climate and terrain of the island makes it the ideal living place for many birds and reptiles and so tourists often see these species when travelling around towns.

Loro Parque is by far the most popular way to see the wildlife of Tenerife and being the second most popular attraction for tourists is a testament to how enjoyable a visit to the park is. The park is a protective home for many species which live in the wild on the island but also a lot which don't as well. The park's focus is primarily on the many tropical birds but there is much more for people to see too.

There is also a lot of marine life at Loro Parque which people can view and watch in shows. Orcas, sea lions and most people's favourite; dolphins can all be seen at the park. Then there are the very lively penguins as well as gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers and still a great deal more. Loro Parque really is a fantastic place to experience the variety of wildlife found in the wild in Tenerife but also some which can't live in the wild there.

There is a great deal of marine life off the shore of Tenerife to and experiencing this can be done by scuba diving, snorkelling or a glass bottomed boat. Relaxing on a glass bottomed boat is a great way to see the many fish but swimming among them when diving or snorkelling is a truly amazing experience.
