Riding A Scooter Can Teach Kids A Lot

By Haley Claire

Kids scooters are great fun there is no denying it but there are a number of other really good factors to consider if you are thinking about buying your child a scooter. Kids scooters also help your child to master their centre of gravity when riding on two wheels. If anyone else has ever helped a child to learn to ride a bicycle you will know that anything that aids your kids to learn this faster will save you hours upon hours of back ache! So scooting can be a useful step on the journey to riding a bike. Balancing their bodies will also help your kids to develop stronger muscles and burn calories. In this day and age, when it's feared our children could be the first generation to die before their parents then anything that helps to keep them fit and healthy is great in my eyes.

My kids have built confidence fast on their scooters but I think that confidence goes deeper than just being about scooting. Since learning to ride a scooter my son has continued on to master some tricks and stunts and in doing so now understands a little about setting himself goals and having ambition for things that at first seem like he could never achieve - great skills for life in general not just scooting! Scooting, as with any sport, can make you a lot more confident of your own body, helping you to realise that you are in charge of it and can push it to limits you were unaware you could manage.

Riding a kids scooter can bring a certain degree of freedom for your child. Where it's safe, being able to free wheel around streets or local park on their own little mode of transport will give them a real feeling of the wind in their hair and space around them. Sadly in this modern world there is a tendency for many of us mums not to want to let our offspring too far from our apron strings but this needs to be balanced with the need to let our children explore and scooters for kids are a great way for them to do this.

And what fun it can be! I know this because unbeknownst to my son I ride his scooter back home from school every day!!! I know I might be edging nearer and nearer to the big 40 but I still feel a kid at heart and why should my son get all the fun! He is thinking of upgrading now to a Ripstik which is sort of a cross between a skateboard and a scooter. Essentially this is a scooter without the handle bars, or a skateboard with only 2 wheels depending on how you look at it. And yes, I will be having a go on that too (when no one is looking!!) The Ripstick therefore is even more about balance because you have nothing to hold on too. There are 3 models the Ripster, the G Caster and the Air Pro and I think the Ripstik could be the must have toy this Christmas.

Kids scooters are great for helping your children get out and about and meet other kids. Scooting is always more fun it you have someone to show off to or chase around the park. My kids spend hours now each week racing around the little park opposite our house with the other kids in the area. Its great fun to watch them enjoying the outdoors but also making friends and socializing. Because kids scooters these days come in so many sizes and styles there seems to be one to suit every kids. The younger ones seem to start out on the 3 wheel scooters such as the Iscoot mini micro scooter. The JD bug and Micro scooter do some great first 2 wheel folding scooters and then once you are a pro migrating on to the Madd Gear Pro and Slamm Scooters will give you confidence in your stunts and make you the envy of the park.
