Tips For Family Travels With Children

By Arnold Spicke

Traveling with kids can be one of the toughest things parents have to face, especially if their child is at a very young age. With a little preparation, a stressful trip can be avoided.

Plan ahead and expect the unexpected. This is the best strategy for ensuring a hassle-free and comfortable experience for both you and your child.

For parents taking a trip for the holidays with babies, make sure that you have more than enough formula, bottled water, disposable bottles, diapers, wipes and snacks. Keep them warm and cozy with a blanket and pillow.

Toddlers and pre-schoolers can be kept temporarily pre occupied with coloring books, games and small toys. If you have one, bring a portable DVD player so that they can watch their favorite shows on that long drive. Read along books can also keep them busy as they listen to the story while looking at the pictures and words in the book. It can also aid in developing their reading skills. Make scheduled stops so that they can get some fresh air, stretch their legs and enjoy the outdoors for a while.

Some mothers can attest that keeping the kids attention through reading, can make a long drive bearable for everyone. Mom's reading to their child as their father drives can even make the kids sleepy and make them take naps. When they awake, they can become restless once again, so it is important to be ready with the next batch of activites they can do. Playing a game of I Spy, or cloud shapes can even be a great bonding game. When giving them snacks, try to give them ones with less sugar. Less sugar, less hyper.

When the time comes to change diapers, it is good to know that most rest stops are equipped with changing stations in the rest rooms of both men and women. Having a lot of baby wipes ready can make changing an easier and less dreadful task.

Family trips can be an enjoyable experience for all the members if parents are well prepared for most eventualities. You can tune into your inner child so that you will have a good idea of how to keep your child happy and comfortable. A wise move would also be to ask your parents and friends who have kids for some tips.

Excursions involving the whole family can be considered quality time and so you must make the most of it. A camera or videocam can record precious memories that can become great stories that can be told in the future when your child is all grown up.
