Electric Skateboards for Fun and Transportation

By Troy Baxter

Electric skateboards are a sweet way to get around and have fun. However, people often say, why not get some exercise and just kick around without using an electric motor? Electric skateboards may seem like a "lazy" way of transportation when compared to a calorie burning non-electric skateboard, but for those that want to get to their destination faster, or have some help going up those long hills, having a motor may be more appealing.

Having a motor doesnt mean you still cant kick the board along. Many boards let you kick the electric skateboard when you want to save the battery, or when you are just feeling like you want to get some exercise.

Electric skateboards are loads of fun. Who says going to school, to your next class, to your office, or wherever has to be boring. Why not jazz up your commute and zoom along on an electric skateboard? It definitely beats walking.

E-Glide makes quality electric skateboards, and at the time this article was written, they currently have five models. All of their boards, besides one, can go up to 20 mph in just four seconds. The DC-36 is a smaller and lighter model that is more affordable, but it goes slower than the others. Their boards (besides the DC-36) can go 12-15 miles per charge. To control the speed, each board has a controller that is connected to the board via a cable. They say they use a cable because wireless controllers can be susceptible to interference.

If you would rather have a wireless controller, check out Exkates line up of electric skateboards. There top models can go up to 19-20 mph. If you want an electric skateboard that can handle rougher terrain, they even have a model fitted with knobby tires.

Electric skateboards, the good ones anyway, are not cheap. While they can cost a pretty penny to buy, they are extremely cheap to charge, especially when you compare it to what it costs to drive a gas burning vehicle.

Whether you are looking for an electric skateboard for transportation, fun, or both, E-Glide and Exkate offer a nice selection, all ranging in deck size and shape, maximum speed, weight, and range. Do your research and pick the right one for you, then hop on and enjoy the ride.
