Getting Ahead With Alternative Power

By Jim Thorpe

When you have an American flag in your yard, it is important that you know how you are going to show respect for the flag. There are a lot of people that struggle understanding how they are going to follow all of the rules that have been developed in our culture to respect the flag.

Patriotic songs, not a few, have been written to attempt to express the profound respect and reverence owed to the flag. It is no wonder, then, that many citizens have their own flags flying over their property, demonstrating their pride in their country. When displaying your flag, it is important to never allow the flag to touch the ground. Try to keep the flag as neat and clean as is possible.

If you choose to hang your flag on a wall, rather than on a flagpole, you should be sure that the field of stars, or union, is always to the top left. Regardless of the place and manner in which you choose to display the flag, you should be just as careful as to how you store it. Far too many times a person will take the flag from his flagpole or off his wall and simply bunch it up and stuff it somewhere. This is not appropriate.

However, the technology bears further examination, so that people can understand what it is and what its potential is like, as well as understanding where things might go from this point. This will hopefully allow for greater proliferation of these goods, as well as opening the door for greater overall application.

Keep the flag at about the same height as your waist. When you are sure you have a hold of the flag, you can begin to fold it. The first fold is made by bringing one side of the flag over on the other, effectively folding the flag lengthwise. The bottom portion with stripes on it should go over the portion with the union.

You have to make sure that it is going to be protected from the elements and held in a position of respect. If you are flying the flag upside down, you will be signaling distress and if you do not intend to signal distress you should not be flying the flag in this manner.

When you are taking the flag down and when you are putting it back up, you want to make sure that you do not let the flag touch the ground.

This fold is made in remembrance of the soldier who has passed. Because the flag folding ceremony is also done at military funerals where the deceased has not died in combat, this fold might also represent the portion of the veteran's life given in service.

The next fold is made by bringing the point that was created by the previous fold inward. The stripes of this triangle should be parallel to the stripes on the remainder of the flag. A belief in and reliance on God, or a supreme being, is represented in this fold. As Americans we respect the religious freedom of all, and we even honor religion with our flag.

Emergency flashlights also make use of solar panels that are mounted on the top of them. In an emergency situation, this is a very advantageous way of having the device set up. The person can use the flashlight at night and passively recharge it as they go during the day. It is a perfect combination of form and function.

Triangular folds are repetitively made in the flag until only the blue, starry union is on top. The flag itself should now be triangular in shape. Each of the folds made in the flag to reach this end have their own meaning. The sixth fold represents our hearts because we use them when pledging allegiance to the flag.

Flying a flag that is dirty or needs to be mended is also a sign of disrespect and you should take time to wash the flag and fix any rips or tears in the flag as soon as they occur.

Flying a flag in your yard can be a lot of work if you want to do it respectfully. But, flying it respectfully will be well worth your time.
