BJD Eyes And Customization Acts

By Celina Heath

Any doll articulated with socket joints and ball are known throughout the world as ball jointed dolls. It is a highly modern doll that is well regarded throughout the world. Just like any other doll, it encompasses many parts such as BJD eyes and others. It also goes by the acronym ABJD, which refers to modern Asian varieties.

Polyurethane synthetic resin is what it is normally cast in. The rest of the parts are brought together with the use of thick elastics. China, South Korea and Japan are countries that are primarily responsible for the manufacturing of these products. Anime is a clear influence but despite that, it generally retains a realistic look.

There are various sizes. The bigger ones can reach up to twenty four inches, otherwise known as sixty centimeters. Medium sized are forty centimeters or sixteen in terms of inches. The little ones reach four inches, which is ten centimeters. The audience for this are generally adult and are normally collectors.

The level of customization that is allowed on these dolls is so extensive that it may freak out a person who has never heard of them before. Practically anything and everything can be customized in some shape or form. Parts like the eyes and the hair can be changed. The clothing can be swapped with just about anything.

The modification process is not limited to those things though. The other parts of the body can be customized to, such as the hands, the feet and the head. How it will look at the end of it all will depend on the owner, in spite of the original look that it sported. There are several ways one can go about in changing the looks of these items.

Some go as far as re shaping all of the existing parts to suit their liking. This is normally achieved through the application of epoxy putty or by sanding them. Others will trade or buy parts with other owners. It is entirely possible to find one that is made up of arms, legs, clothes among others that have all been manufactured from different companies.

Compared to vinyl, which is slick and far softer, the resin material can be far easier to paint. The BJD painting method of the face is referred to by most as a faceup. This is to emphasize the fact that it is more than just make up, and every detail on the face is painted. The eyebrows and the eyes are no exception and are subject to modifications.

Acrylic paint is utilized for body blushing and for faceups. Acrylic paint is applied with the use of airbrushes or perhaps just regular brushes. Besides that, watercolor pencils are also used. Clear matte sealant are sprayed on to coat everything for protective purposes. An important thing to remember is that all of these are done by hand only.

It will take a lot of well honed skill to do these customizations. As an example, BJD eyes are quite detailed and to change something would take time, effort and skill. Those that lack those three will definitely fail to live up to certain standards. The work will look sub par compared to what was originally there. Artistic talent, an eye for detail and lots of work is needed to succeed here.
