What Kind Of Beads Are Used For Wedding Beadwork?

By Daniel Turbin

Wedding beadwork is extra exceptional not only because each and every bride prefers their day to be unique but also because the beaded pieces will become mementos on this special event. It is important to use the proper materials in your bridal projects.

Many the decision making process will be dictated by your budget and the type of wedding you are planning to have. A few brides have dreams of having pearls sewn into their attire and train. Others just wish to create some easy but beautiful jewelry and a head piece. The most popular beads using for bridal work consist of the following:

Silver beads: You can purchase sterling silver beads that are a mix of real silver and copper. Lawfully to be sold as sterling silver, the silver content has to be very high normally over 90%.

Gold beads: A lot of people prefer to use gold beads however for those who cannot pay for the real thing they prefer to use silver beads that have been electroplated with gold.

Pearls - The pearls used in beadwork will likely be freshwater and not the high-priced sea water variety. Pearls can be hard to work with not least as the holes can be rather small and generally off center. They also have to separate from other beads as they can get damaged easily. They are ideal for sewing into a dress or headpiece however if you are using them in jewelry you should put a knot between every pearl so that it doesn't hit off any other beads including other pearls. In case you are novice beader working on their first project, you could find working with these beads a little difficult.

Bone beads -these are less commonly used then the above types but they are cheap and naturally white in color thus are perfect to use if you are on a limited budget. You may also use glass to achieve a wonderful effect on your wedding beadwork.
