Make The Yard Of Your Dreams With These Landscaping Tips

By James Harding

Close your eyes and picture your yard. Are you happy about what you see? If not, today is the day for change. This article will provide you with many tips and techniques, which can take your yard from junk to oasis in a short amount of time, and your budget won't be broken.

Prior to going out and purchasing what you need to do your landscaping, make a plan. By having an idea of what you should buy, and where it is going to go in your yard, you will avoid over purchasing supplies. In the long run, this will save you money, time and frustration.

If you can time your purchases right when doing your landscaping project, you can save a bundle of cash. If you buy your plants, soil or mulch towards the end of the season, you can expect to pay up to 20 percent less than at the beginning of the season when the demand is much higher.

Don't be afraid of the unusual or unique when it comes to plants to use in your landscaping. Plants that are 'not the norm' can give a sense of variety and even drama to a garden. They should be used sporadically to give a flair to certain areas. Be careful, though, to read the requirements for each plant to make sure they are getting enough light and water to survive!

If you live in a city area be sure to know the mapping of sun in your yard. Many areas that have homes close together have a hard time planning a nice landscape. If you find areas in your yard that get enough sun for certain plants, try to incorporate those areas into your landscaping plans.

Keep a landscaping journal. Collect pictures, and magazine clippings of landscapes that you like to help inspire you if, you don't know what you want to do with your own yard. You might even take before, and after pictures of your yard to remind you of the type of work you've done in the past.

Emphasize perennials in your landscaping plan to have year round coverage. Perennials save the landscaper both money, and labor because once they are in place, all they require is basic maintenance. Annuals of course, have their place in landscaping, as well but over the long run they are more costly and labor intensive than perennials.

What you've read here will help you to build a plan to tackle your landscaping needs one at a time. This will help you to beautify your yard and your home, leading to a positive feeling when you arrive home from work at night. Enjoy your new, more beautiful landscape!
