Colours are an amazing thing, very few things can draw feelings or have associations with it. That's why its important to be careful when picking colours for your scrapbook.
Picking Colours For Events
Events commonly have colours connected with them. For example, think about St Patrick's Day or Halloween, it's not tough to recognise what colours these days are connected with.
But there are also other life events that colours get connected with like weddings or graduations.
For instance, in many schools and universities pupils wear a black robe when they graduate. Generally these robes have a second colour linked with it that shows which faculty or school the graduate belongs to.
These should be things to consider if you're working on an event based scrapbook like a wedding or high school scrapbook.
Moods
Colour can influence moods. Brighter colours are sometimes connected with stronger feelings, while darker colours generally represent the calmer, more subtle states of mind.
Red is an excellent example. Red is the colour of passion, fury and love. All powerful feelings that will drastically effect how someone acts or reacts.
On the opposite end of the spectrum we have blue, the colour of relaxation, deep thought and unhappiness. Blue usually is used to help folk relax and frequently has a soothing effect. The darker the blue, the more soothing it feels.
Colours In Other Cultures
You must also consider the cultural background of your intended audience when picking colours.
If you were to make a marriage album, you would naturally be using plenty of different shades of white. To a westerner this is the colours of the brides dress and represents innocence and purity.
However, if this was meant to for a Chinese or Japanese audience, it would actually represent mourning and loss - something you definitely would not wish to be associated with a wedding.
It usually pays to do your preperation when you are making an album for folk of a different cultural background.
So there are a couple of points to think about when you are planning colours for your next album.
