Best Christmas Toy

By Robin Castner

Everyone wants to give the best gift. But it's impossible to keep up with all the new trends in toys. Are you looking for the best Christmas presents for 2011? I'll help you out!

Stay away from technology. As you know it gets very expensive and kids lock themselves in their rooms to play alone then get tired of the newest tech toy or video game in a week. This year, think different. Check out long lasting toys that kids can play with together. I'll give you some tips for finding the right ones for your kids.

Check out Environmentally Friendly Toys. Environmentally safe toys come in a huge variety and are great for kids of all ages. There are art toys like environmentally friendly colored pencils or eco-crafts, eco-friendly vehicles like cars and trucks, playhouse toys like dishes and tea sets, and even stuffed animals. So why go eco friendly? They're good for the planet because they use materials that are either sustainable or recycled and manufacturing processes that minimize pollution. All materials used to make environmentally toys are safe for the planet and made to last. What's better than a fun, long lasting toy that's environmentally responsible? Brands like Green Toys, Plan Toys, Sprig and Makedo all have fun, environmentally safe toys.

Try giving kids collectible toys like vehicles, toy soldiers, or figurines. Our modern culture has been described as a throw away culture where toys rotate in and back out in the trash soon after. It's rare that a toy is kept or taken care of for long after it is received. If your next Christmas present is a quality toy that is worthy of collecting it could last a child into adulthood. If the present is a hit it could start their first collection worthy of showing off but still fun to play with. Some great suggestions are King and Country toy soldiers, William Britain vehicles, or Anri wood figurines.

Lacking time together? A game can be another novel suggestion for Christmas gifts. The right game can be fun for a whole family and can be played with together for years. You can find some of the newest games from Thinkfun, Carrom Company, or Briarpatch that will be fun for the whole family.

Check out Puppets. There are new, extremely creative puppets on the market today. They're an upgrade from stuffed animals because you can animate everything from their mouths to their arms or tails. Puppets let kids create plays and express their performing side or can just be fun friends to play with. Folkmanis has a huge selection of puppets made in the likeness of every kind of real animal and imaginary characters as well.

Try Building or science toys. These may not seem like super fun toys by the sound of them but some of your favorites, like LEGO, are considered building toys. Building toys like COBI and Erector are challenging and addicting projects that keep kids preoccupied and they can learn something too. Even though building and science toys can teach kids a thing or two, playing with them can actually be really fun and relaxing too!

Classic toys are back on the scene. Favorite Fisher Price toys are coming back as Fisher Price Retro and wooden and tin toys are classic, long lasting favorites that last through years and generations. Fisher price retro is still making the pull a tune xylophone and the chatter telephone (which is so great it made Toy Story). Wooden toys like classic blocks, games, and a ride-on rocking horse are all great toys that will last through the years.

Christmas shopping is a hassle, but picking the perfect toy shouldn't be. Stick to uncommon, classic, and novel toys to find the perfect Christmas gift.
