Sports socks can really vary

By Vince Samios

There are lots of activities that require good sports socks. It is important to know what sort of sock will be best for you. Sock technology has advanced far beyond the traditional cotton sock, although that is still popular. Today there are tons of choices in socks for you to look at and consider.

There are different materials that are used to make sports socks now. You need to think about what will work best for you based on the activity that you are engaging in. For instance there are specific socks for rock climbing. You will want a totally different sock if you are going to cross-train. Paying attention to the type of activity you do will help you decide on a sock.

There are different sock materials that are best for different activities. While the every popular cotton sock works for some activities it is not good for endurance sports. When you participate in an endurance sport you need a sock that keeps moisture away from your skin. Your skin can become very irritated if you have sweat that stays in contact with the skin for too long. The best way to know if a sock will wick away the moisture is to read the packaging to see if that is something the manufacturer claims the sock can do.

Sock today usually include things like padding and arch support as part of the vastly improved technology used to design socks today. The padding in most socks is located in the heel of the sock and the toe of the sock. You will need to determine how much arch support you think you need from your sock too.

You should also consider the length of sock in your purchase, which means thinking about what you'd be comfortable in.
