Nautical And Shooting Star Tattoos

By Darren Hartley

Nautical star tattoos are symbols of a remembrance star, love, dream following and something to let people around you know you rely on the stars to guide you in the specific path you have chosen. They were first tattooed on early sailors who relied on the stars to find their way at sea.

In the punk subculture, protective nautical star tattoos are worn as on the elbow or part of a sleeve tattoo to connote the true north or finding one's own unique individuality. In the early days of the homosexual culture, particularly lesbians, wore them on their wrist, covered by a watch or bracelet during the day but shown off during the night.

Guidance, good fortune, protection, security and direction are among the common meanings associated with nautical star tattoos. When they are worn by sailors, they become expressions of anxiousness for a safe trip to wherever they are supposed to go.

Entering the earth's atmosphere in the form of a meteor is a shooting star. Because of this, shooting star tattoos became regarded as symbolisms for wishes that become realities, success that is non-lasting and good luck. Normally portrayed as a big star with smaller stars on its trail, often referred to as a stardust, a shooting star represented in a tattoo design is seen as a great way of showing off a subtle imagery while remaining to cover a larger area of the body.

Associated with shooting stars are moments in time that mark lasting impressions on a person. These moments could be from a brief romance, a life-changing event, an unforgettable person, a truly satisfying job, any incident that has an enormous transitional effect on a person's life. A person may opt for shooting stars tattoos for any of these specific reasons.

A shooting star could also represent the hopes of a person to be a star in his own right or his goals and determination of reaching the stars by becoming the success he can be, even just on a temporary basis. Because shooting star tattoos are not very masculine by nature, not a lot of men wear them while women usually wear them on the arm, leg, foot wrist, side or lower back.
