3-D Printing Machines Are Set To Change The Production Industry

By Jamel Torrens

3D printers are currently a buzz worthy subject, due to their ability to create viable products from mere digital designs. These can be used to produce everything from specialized tennis shoes to various forms of weaponry. This equipment is currently being called the start of a manufacturing revolution.

A technical student surprised the world by being able to design and print a fully functioning gun from plastic. The resulting product was able to fire a bullet at sufficient speeds for causing physical harm to anything that lay in its path. This was an exciting development and one that also raised a lot of important questions concerning the regulation of these products.

These capabilities have sparked massive concern in many public arenas, given the limited legislation that exists concerning this equipment. They have also shed more light on a technology that few people believed was capable of existing. Now, companies are scrambling for ways to add these to their assets. They understand that this technology could dramatically enhance their operations.

It actually costs quite a bit to get an average model, which is why these are unattainable to most consumers. People who have enough money, however, will have no problem scoring one on the consumer market. Due to this fact, those who own they can produce unlimited objects. A lot of people are using them for pure experimental fun while many entrepreneurs are using them to start highly profitable businesses.

A number of artists are also using these tools to start producing 3 dimensional artwork. In fact, this is a common practice in many different parts of the world. Because it can take quite a long while for the printing process to complete, however, most artistic designs of any considerable size are being printed in pieces and then fitted together for a full display.

Customization of products is something that many companies will now be able to offer. There are even many businesses that are doing this right now. Some shoe producers have made it possible for customers to create customized shoe designs right in their stores. These have the logo of the company, but the customer has total control over which design elements are included and which are not.

There are nearly unlimited deign possibilities with 3D printers. The major drawbacks of this equipment continue to be their printing speeds and their average costs. These are features that can only be improved upon as this idea is further hone. When more consumers begin purchasing this type of printer, however, it will be necessary to have legislation enacted concerning the items that can be freely printed and those that cannot.
