Canon 0345B002 Description And Reviews

By Alexandra Anderson

Canon 70 to 300 mm IS USM with f 4 to 5.6 is also codenamed as the 0345B002. IS stands for image stabilizer that operates on a 3 stop basis offering superb reduction in blur due to camera shake. It is also the worlds first interchangeable lens that uses image stabilization having superseded the 75 to 300mm IS USM from Canon. Designed specifically for long-range pictures without the use of a stand, it is perfect for sports lovers and nature admirers.

Compared to the last model, this new Canon interchangeable lens will now sport IS with three stops. This means that the shutter can operate for three stops in total exposing the camera to an image tad bit longer without an equivalent rise in blurring. What it means is that any shot taken at 1 by 500 seconds shall now appear as a picture at 1 by 60 seconds thus providing better results at very low lighting conditions.

Image stabilization for the Canon 70-300mm IS USM operates using tiny sensors called gyro gears. These gears are rigged to smaller lenses inside the camera lens that orient their direction against the movement of the camera hence correcting all those light rays that have deviated off their actual path onto the film and sensor. This IS system usually offers two modes for shooting. One corresponds to a stable object and the other to a moving object. The first mode will provide corrective movements for horizontal and vertical directions and the second one works only for the vertical direction. This system for image stabilization is rigged to automatically shut down when the camera is attached to a tripod thus ensuring zero redundancy.

This model too boasts of a better Auto Focus feature. The USM micro controller operates at high speeds using ultra-sonic speeds or frequencies that drive the AF silently at faster pace. The focus adjustments stop with good torque ensuring higher accuracy and precision. Moreover, this corrects for overshoot feature while ensuring a proper focus point.

The zoom wide angle lens is so large that it can easily be scratched. The zoom ring lock feature ensures that this never happens as it locks the zoom extension from coming out. By staying locked at the wide angle setting, you can sling the camera or store it away in a safe carry bag without worrying about the lens cover coming off.

The EF 70-300 IS f 4-5.6 USM operates an EMD device using circular aperture. The purpose of this component is to provide for better focus on the subject with less stress on the surroundings. The result is that a defocused background emerged with the subject isolated even at larger apertures.

This lens uses new technology to reduce effects of ghosting and flares. Using a special super spectra lens coating and by shaping the lens elements it manages to reduce the reflection from the sensor. In return, you get undistorted crisper images with a natural balance of colors.

A distance measurement chip inside the 0345B002 Canon lens directly communicates with an E-TTL II flash unit such that it can set up a perfect flash. Moreover, it is fully compatible with EOS 5D and EOS 1D models. This lens shall also hook up with the EX Speedlite series offering better flash and focus.
