An remarkable showpiece - the LEGO Black Pearl, from Lego

By Jayme Bruton

The LEGO Black Pearl Pirates of the Caribbean (Lego 4148) is a wonderful LEGO re-creation of the famous ship from Disney's Pirate movie series. It has over eight hundred parts, and includes six figurines from the story. Being completed, it stands almost 2 feet high and 21 inches long, which forms an impressive kit that can be terrific for play or as a stand alone display product.

In addition to the regular LEGO blocks, you'll find black fabric sails, giving the set an added level of quality. The set includes 3 instruction booklets, and a big size poster .

The LEGO Black Pearl comes with:

- 804 pieces in total.

- Measures 21 inches long x 20 inches high x 5 inches wide.

- Six figures including Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Davy Jones, Maccus and Bootstrap Bill.

- A very detailed interior cabin, firing canons, black fabric sails, Jolly Roger pirate flag and anchor.

- Perfect for ages 8-14.

For starters, is a great LEGO set for children aged between 8-14. For the kids it's a challenging puzzle to work on, but it's not exceedingly difficult. For me an eight year-old should certainly assemble it in just a few hours, perhaps with aid from a grownup on a few parts, but overall they will get an absolute blast of a time.

Upon assembly, the ship does look very good, and there is lots that a kid can do with it as much as play goes. Captain Jack's thorough cabin to explore, the shooting cannons and detachable floorboards are just some of the characteristics of the package.

The package set does a terrific job at re-creating the story experience, and adding fabric sails is an added bonus. LEGO could have satisfied themselves with using just plastic, but the fabric does offer a nice contrast. Even if not being played with, it makes for a fantastic display ship.

According to where you shop, this LEGO set could cost a bit costly, thereby requires a bit of shopping around requires a bit of looking aroundHowever, there are many places where the kit is sold for less than LEGO's recommended retail price, which happens to be wonderful.

There are rare situations when pieces of blocks have been missed out, there is very little else to say that is actually negative about the product. Most negative issues with this product are really minor and shouldn't affect your decision to purchase it or not.

Overall, this set is very nice and recreates the Pirates series well. The included six figures make the perfect bonus, as extra characters really help populate the deck and make the ship look busy. And they also provide much more play choices for children. It is both a thrilling experience to build and extremely playable as well. We give this unit a clear thumbs up.
