LongshotCS6 Mods

By Jerry Benson

Are you looking for a way to improve your NStrike Rapid Fire and make it more powerful? We might as well admit something here. The fact is, these guns could fire at greater distances if safety wasn't such a high priority for Nerf. However, are you aware that you can increase the power of the guns with a few tools and a bit of patience?

WHAT ARE THE REASONS TO MOD?

There are two primary things that gun modding makes possible. For starters, it makes a drastic difference in your range. Take a second to imagine the Nerf gun you own right now. What distance can you achieve when firing it? While the typical answer of somewhere between 15 and 35 feet is not too shabby, what would it be like after you have given that gun enough power to shoot those darts twice or even three times as far? Distances like those are not impossible or even all that rare. There are cases of modded guns that could fire at distances far beyond a hundred feet.

Automatic weapons are part of the second argument in favor of modding. With an automatic rifle you can put out a set of 25 rounds in approximately 7 to 8 seconds. But how would it sound if the gun can discharge 25 rounds in only 3 seconds? Over 8 rounds each second shooting at the target. Sounds awfully sweet, doesn't it?

Some people make money on their modded guns by selling them on eBay or other online venues, so this is a great way to make a little extra money too.

What is the process of performing a mod on a gun?

You may be surprised to learn that modding a gun does not require special expertise. When it comes to nearly any gun Nerf makes, you can perform three basic modifications. Making the spring more powerful, modding the barrel and exchanging it with a brass tube and removing air restrictors. Each of these three modifications have the end result of increasing your shot's power so that when your dart fires, it has a much larger range. One more thing you can do is to make homemade darts, which are termed 'stefans'.

PART 1: BOOST YOUR SPRING POWER: Achieve this by first unscrewing your weapon - while keeping track of all the screws. You can see your guns inner workings after you remove all the screws. Within the pulling system of the gun, springs are also contained. You would find it toward the center on a CS-6 model, for instance. One way to improve your gun is to invest in a few 20-lb. springs with the potential to deliver a real boost to your firing power. Because now the gun will have quite a quick and you want it to hold together, you might want to add some PVC pipe for reinforcement. Once you replace the screws you removed, you'll be all set. You don't exactly need a GPS to locate the gun's spring mechanism.

PART 2: REMOVE AIR RESTRICTORS: Air restrictors are pieces of plastic that use about half the energy that you put into the shot and just throw it away. Have these tools on hand: phillips-type screwdriver and drill fitted with a long bit. Remove the gun's screws once more - and don't forget where you will need to replace them. In the middle area of the gun, once you take off the trigger on the CS-6, there is a blocked area inside of a tube that looks like a turret. Located at the opposite end is a needle that sticks out around 2/3 of the way beyond the tube. Drill out the needle portion and you will not have any air restrictions, letting shots go further than you ever imagined. Don't forget that you have to put your weapon back together.

Part #3: Modding your Gun Barrel: This procedure isn't really tricky at all. The barrels mostly consist of shabby plastic parts which are not able to hold in air. You can fire darts further by cutting down on the friction between the darts and the barrel by replacing the original barrel with a 17/32 inch brass tube. All you have to do is swap your factory or stock barrel with the identical size barrel made of copper or brass. Start to finish, this barrel mod takes around ten minutes.

PART 4: Making 'Stefans': In truth, Nerf darts are really nothing more than foam backer rod measuring .5 inches. Stop in at the nearest hardware outlet, and then buy a 20 ft. package of this stuff. What you have, in effect, is 20 feet worth of darts, waiting for you to perforate them. You simply slice this long length into around 75 dart-size sections. Utilize your hair dryer and pillowcase to straighten and size them. Just leave the dryer running a couple minutes, shake the pillow case, and then let them cool down.

After that, employ a glue gun bit without the glue to make holes in the middle of the top portion, and then add a BB in each hole, covering it up with hot glue. You should be able to prepare around 75 of these in a thirty minute period.

It is quick and simple to mod nerf guns and creates darts of your own, and whether your goal is to sell them or simply shoot farther, there is high demand for modded guns.
