Take A Hike

By Malcolm Andersen

There is no better way to have a memorable and thrilling vacation that to take a hiking vacation. It does not matter if you are taking the time with your family or by yourself, you will have a memorable time either way.

Hiking vacations offer a variety of different adventures. You will be taking in the scenery as getting in touch with Mother Nature.

Take Your Pick

There are lots of different locations to choose from when looking for the perfect hiking spot. You may decide to hike on a trail or through a certain part of the woods. There are a number of cleared trails that can be used as a walking trail.

You can also go and look for an uncleared trail in the woods for a more adventurous hike. However, if this is the route you want to take, be sure that you have informed a relative or a friend of your plans, such as location and time, in case you do get lost. You are sure to have a great experience whichever trail you do take in the end.

What To Pack

When you are going to take a hiking vacation, it is important that you bring along some necessary and very important items. However, you do not want to overdo it because you do have to carry your luggage on your back.

Use the weather as your reference for the appropriate hiking clothes. If it is cold then you should wear thick layered clothes while if it is warm you should wear thin layered clothes. Don't forget your emergency blanket.

Don't forget the matches so that you can light up a fire. As a precaution, put the matches in a waterproof bag so they don't accidentally get wet. Pack a few light snacks since these can help you avoid hunger while hiking.

Bring more than enough water. Hiking can cause dehydration so it is important that you drink plenty of water. Don't bring sugared drinks or soda as they can also trigger thirstiness. Plain water is always the best drink for any outdoor recreation, including hiking. Take frequent breaks during your hike to hydrate yourself by taking a drink.

Bring a camera. Hikers are often privy to the beauty of nature and its wildlife, especially those in uncleared trails in the wood. Take pictures of these as mementos of your hike. Later, you can look at them again when you are in the comfort of your own home and even in the company of your loved ones.

Finally, you will need something to dry yourself or your gear off from time to time. A lightweight, quick drying towel comes in handy for many things, without the bulk of traditional cotton towels. And it won't get moldy at the bottom of your backpack if it is fast drying.

Beginners To The Hiking World

Whatever you wish to call yourself as a hiking beginner, it is best if you take things at a slow pace. Take someone hiking with you over the weekend so that you can get the feel of it. If possible choose someone that has had experience in hiking so that you can ask for a couple of tips including the best locations to go hike alone or with family and friends. Ask other hikers for their tips based on personal experiences.

After a few hiking trips, you will surely be eager to schedule your next hiking vacation.
