How To Make Your Hummer A Green Vehicle

By Jim Timothys

If you would like to live green, you would not have imagined that owning a Hummer would be part of it. However, with the popularity of alternative fuel sources, that is today changing. Now that General Motors essentially owns Hummer, the auto maker giant is making efforts to make Hummers that run on alternative fuels. Because the normal Hummer gets very poor gas mileage and uses considerably more gasoline than a regular vehicle, it has never been the preferred vehicle of the environmentalists. It simply made sense that an alternative fuel Hummer would be designed by someone, so that people could afford them, and the environment would not be affected in an adverse way.

The result was an environmentally conscious company taking up the task to turn a Hummer into an earth-friendly vehicle. A not-for-profit organization named Eco-Trek, headed by Tom Holm, campaigns for the use of alternative sources of fuel. Tom Holm was sick of his Hummer being such a gas-guzzler and wanted to make it safe for the planet. Therefore, he not simply determined to modify his Hummer and make it more efficient, he was successful in executing it. Consequently, he's been able to turn his experiment into a profitable commercial enterprise.

The Hummers that Tom alters are likewise enhanced visually, making them highly favored by the young. The younger generation likes the stylish look while being environment-friendly and fuel efficient. These Hummers use less crude oil than hybrid autos since they run on biodiesel fuel. Believe it or not, you can use regular vegetable oil as alternative fuel to drive the Hummer. Amazingly, Tom's Hummer can go 23 miles per gallon on the freeway without any type of crude oil fuel.

Numerous environmentally concerned famous people are interested in these earth-friendly Hummers. For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger owns two of these earth-friendly Hummers. Just recently, he had one modified to run on hydrogen also, which gives out no greenhouse gas. Whenever you have a vehicle that does not produce any greenhouse gas is a good thing. Nowadays, you can have the Hummer that you always wanted without having to be concerned about damaging the environment.

You can buy an environmentally safe Hummer or you can convert the one you own into an environmentally safe version. It will cost you some money, but you will be doing good for our environment, and in the long haul driving a Hummer can be well worth the price, if it uses alternative fuels.
