Making Sure You Are Prepared For Any Weather At A Music Festival

By Oliver Fish

Camping is a traditional British activity in the summer. Lots of campers go camping in the wilderness or at a campsite which is a more normal style of camping but recently there has been a trend of people of all ages going to a music festival and camping there. Glastonbury is the biggest and most well known but there is also Reading/Leeds, T in the Park, V Festival and many other smaller events where a range of age groups will be braving the possibly extreme elements.

The weather is always a big talking point of a music festival. Whenever somebody returns from one the first question that is almost always asked is "how was the weather?". This is because the newspapers are filled with scenes from the larger festivals every year, some of time showing mud-soaked individuals sliding around, and sometimes thousands of revellers enjoying themselves in blazing hot sunshine.

It is not uncommon for festival goers to experience all of the above weather conditions at the one event over their few days there! These volatile weather conditions make it hard to work out what to take with you in terms of clothing and equipment. It is a huge risk only packing for warm conditions in case it rains, but it is also not advisable to only pack for cold and wet weather as you may end up too warm without any summer clothing!

You should really look at packing for all realistically possible conditions. If you are going to be sleeping in a tent for 5 nights and spending 5 days walking around outside comfort is an essential which means you need to be prepared for anything.

Not only do you need to think about the hot or cold day scenario, but you must remember that the night times are going to be cold whatever the weather was like in the day. If the sun has been shining all day you are likely to feel even colder at night by comparison. In this situation you should make sure you pack a fleece jacket or top to put on when the sun goes down.

Beyond that you need to pack your usual waterproofs, as well as t-shirts and shorts for when the weather does take a turn for the better. If you are well prepared, there should be no problems with the weather and you are free to just enjoy the music.
