Traditional Books Versus E-Books - The Discussion Between Various Parties

By Richard Norris

It finally happened. More e-books were bought last year than books in print. This resulted in an intense discussion among a lot of people. There were some who believed that books should be printed in a traditional manner. They also believed that although technology has made leaps in changing human lifestyles, it is also fickle and irregular.

On the other hand, the e-book fans have a good point in that it makes books more portable and virtually un-damageable. It also makes them cheaper. In fact, in many cases, they're free. Those are all great points.

However, there's nothing quite like the satisfaction and relaxation that comes with curling up with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book. It certainly depends on personal preference and it might also rely on what age the individual is, but it's still not the real thing.

It's not the same with a digital book. The screen doesn't have the same visual spectrum as paper and if you're easily distracted by all the other forms of entertainment offered online. With an old fashioned book, you are able to get lost amongst the pages far easier.

There's also the value to consider. Many first edition printed books are worth quite a lot of money. E-books, on the other hand, are practically a dime a dozen.

There is another thing to consider when comparing price. While an old fashioned book is more expensive, you own it forever, it can sit proudly on your shelf, and you won't lose it because of some copyright device or software glitch.

However, there is definitely merit in technology. Without a doubt, the world would be a far more depressing and difficult place and we wouldn't be able to accomplish as much as can be done nowadays.

However, some may say that technology has been bad as far as the book world goes. Libraries and printed books are slowly being forgotten and it's a real shame.
