Saving Money On Your Wedding

By Hedrick Lepsch

Too often in backyards across America the usable space of a home's exterior go unused or under appreciated. The backyard, or front yard for that matter, of any home can be used to great extent by the occupants if only they will have the vision to do something with it.

The first decision that you will have to make is where you are going to start planting. As you are deciding where you want to start planting, you will need to look for an area that is going to be well-drained and will get a minimum of six hours of sunlight throughout the day.

If you do not have fertile soil around your home, you may want to consider building raised garden beds. A raised garden bed will provide you with the ability to have complete control over the soil that your plants will be planted in and the nutrients they receive from the soil.

The first step in landscaping your backyard is coming up with a vision or plan for how you wish your yard to look. This is where you can get creative and have family help.

One idea would be for the bridal party to use goldfish in fish bowls to bring a friendly pet presence to each table, or if live entertainment is not the bride's style, perhaps a basket of fruit can be supplied to give both color and healthy splendor to the center of the reception tables. Less expensive ideas for center pieces include using old and cleaned bottles to hold a single flower, feather, or other decorative accent.

Draw out the dimensions of your garden on a piece of paper and make a map for yourself, so you know where each of your plants will go. You can also place small stakes in the soil and this may help you be more successful when trying to visualize where each plant will go.

After you have developed a workable outline and plan for how you want to landscape your yard, you may begin to work at making it so. Here are a few ideas on what to include in your new backyard.

Start by tilling up the land and removing all of the debris from the plot so you can add soil that is full of nutrients.

Once you have cleared off any debris, you can then add six inches of organic material and shovel the material in to the soil. By doing this, you will be able to incorporate enough material to ensure that the pH level in the soil is going to be acceptable for your plants.

Stop by a flower shop in Pleasant Grove to pick up some starter plants. These flowers can be a great addition to your backyard.

By saving a few extra dollars on the center pieces and floral arraignments of a wedding by doing them themselves, a bride and a wedding party will be able to gain control over troublesome decorations while still saving money.
