The Basic Elements Of A Swing Dance

By Vicki Diaz

Ballroom dancing is a fun way to socialize. This type of dancing is performed by a couple, where one leads and the other follows. One popular style of ballroom dancing is the swing dance uk. This is a physically brisk routine with unique steps. The steps can be simple or complex, but the entire performance is going to be fun. There are various styles and versions of swing, each one has its distinct characteristics and origin.

This type of dance is best known for its swings, lifts and spins. The routine may be complicated for first-timers, but it gets easier with every practice. Aside from the sheer enjoyment it brings for dance enthusiasts and the opportunity to meet other people every session, swing dancing is also a great way to remain physically fit. Completing a daily session can burn as much as 500 calories.

Before proceeding to more complicated choreography, it is essential to learn its basic footwork first. To better understand the basic steps of the routine, you can visualize it. The man takes a step to the left and then to the right followed by three short steps. This interval is repeated, but now going to the other direction. You can learn more by reading guide books, watching a performance or mimicking a tutorial video.

Proper positioning is also important for this dance. Since this is a partnering routine, it is best to practice with a partner. Your partner should not be an inanimate object and preferably from the opposite sex. Generally, the man would lead and the woman follows. Maintain connection with your partner through physical and eye contact.

The first position is the closed hold position where the man lightly holds his partner's waist or hip area. He must keep his right arm at a 90-degree angle. Meanwhile, the woman rests her left hand on the man's right arm or shoulder. Her other hand should be rested on the man's extended left hand. As the choreography progresses, the position may also vary.

In other ballroom dances, the dancers have to keep a straight posture. However in swing, the performers' backs are slightly hunched. The knees are bent to swiftly adjust to the changes in the steps. Precise footwork is also necessary with the fast pace of the dance.

Try not to keep on looking down on your footwork during a performance. It is normal to be conscious at first, but try not to be too engrossed with it. You will learn it eventually. Instead, keep the connection with your partner. This can help you adjust with each other's movement more easily. If you are too focused on your footwork, you may commit mistakes and stumble down or step on your partner's foot.

It is best to start a session with a friend as your partner. You have to feel comfortable when you are just starting out. As you go along, you must try dancing with other partners, though. This can make you more versatile as a dancer as you learn more unique styles from different people. Moreover, partnering is an integral part of any ballroom dances.

Currently, there are clubs and performing schools that offer swing dance uk. Try out even just one session and find out if this marvelous workout works for you. You can burn more calories in a night's dancing than you would in traditional aerobic workout styles. As an added bonus, you can improve your dancing skills and enhance your social circle as well.
