Freezing Peaches Using The Simple Method

By Shawn Hunter

Taking the time to freeze fruits and vegetables can be well worth it. By doing this, you can access the items at any point of the year whenever you need them. Freezing peaches may seem a bit more complicated that other types of foods but in actual fact, it is very simple. You only need a few materials to complete the job. There are some basic steps involved. When you follow the steps, the fruit can be stored safely for several months.

Freezing various kinds of vegetables and fruits is very practical. This action allows you to have all sorts of edibles when they might not otherwise be available. It also means that you can have such products whenever you want them without having to make sudden shopping trips for them. When you have the items handy in your freezer, you can simply take them out for cooking and baking on a whim.

In terms of freezing some peaches, there are certain steps to take. This is especially true if you want to take the skin off of them while preserving most of the flesh. Although the task might seem difficult and complicated, it does not have to be. In fact, the procedure can be quite simple.

It can be a good idea to get your supplies ready before starting the process. You will need a pot of boiling water as well as a bowl of ice water, cutting board, knife, and cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. A bowl of diluted lemon juice or ascorbic acid is also required.

The first step requires you to place the peaches in the boiling water for about thirty seconds. Remove the fruit with a slotted spoon. Put them into the water with ice in it. Remove the peaches and place them on the cutting board.

You may notice that the skin is peeling. Take each piece of fruit and cut it in half from top to bottom, making sure the knife goes all the way through the flesh. You can remove the skin at this point or wait until you have pried the halves apart. You may choose whatever is the easiest for you.

When the skin is peeled and the two halves are split apart, you can then slice the two sides. As you cut the halves into slices, place them into the diluted lemon juice or ascorbic acid. Once these pieces have been dipped into the solution, they may be placed on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and placed in the freezer. When these pieces are frozen, put them into a freezer bag, marked with the date for future reference.

Freezing vegetables and fruits is a great way to have the items handy at any time. The same can be said for something like peaches, especially when they are not always readily available at the store throughout the year. Preparing this type of fruit to be stored in this manner is generally quite easy. You only need a few supplies to complete the task and the results make the effort quite worth it.
