Finding The Best Chemotherapy Headwear

By Christa Jarvis

One of the worst side effects of cancer treatment is hair loss. Many women feel a lack of confidence as a result of this and become more isolated as they do not want to leave their homes and subject themselves to being stared at by passersby. Fortunately, there is such a wide range of chemotherapy headwear available today that this is no longer necessary.

Such items have to be made of fabrics that are as comfortable as possible. They often have to be worn for many hours at a time and a bald head is more sensitive than one covered with hair. A fabric like a soft cotton not only feels gentle but it can breathe, allowing proper ventilation and circulation.

The fit has to be carefully considered too. An item that is too loose or too tight can be difficult to wear for many hours at a time. Some items with a tight fit where elastic is used are too uncomfortable for those who do not like a feeling of tightness on their heads. Many different sizes are available and once a good fit is found, other of the same size can be bought with confidence.

The range of designs available, from simple to fairly elaborate, is very large. There are those suited to every possible occasion from more casual ones like walking the dog to more formal events like going out for dinner. One can even purchase a sleeping hat for keeping the head warm at night.

A basic item that can be worn with many different outfits is an essential in any wardrobe. However, many women in this predicament find that having a selection of items to choose from is not impossible as they are quite affordable. This takes away much stress when dressing to go out, whether it is to go shopping or to the gym. With many items to choose from just the right option can be selected for a specific occasion that matches the clothes being worn.

Colors are always an important consideration and everyone has their favorites. Choice will often depend largely on the clothes already owned as some people have a natural preference for lighter colors while others may spend most of their time dressed in black. One tip to bear in mind when it comes to choosing a color is very bright colors can make a pale face look even more washed out.

It is very easy to add a personal touch to such items with a pretty broach, pin or colorful twisted scarf. An overlay tie too, is a simple way to add some volume and can be chosen to co-ordinate with the clothes being worn. Many people have a few scarves they do not wear lying around and these can be borrowed to help personalize a hat or turban.

So many different items are available today to help women in this circumstance. They can hold their heads high and go on with their lives without feeling a loss of dignity. Suppliers of such products have often become involved in the business through some loss of their own to cancer. They understand exactly what is needed and produce items that are comfortable, stylish and affordable.
