Assisi Animal Health: 3 Healthy Dog Tips During Halloween

By Jennifer Marie Anderson

For many people, Halloween is their favorite holiday in the world. They enjoy all of the festivities which come with it, which is a point that very few will be able to overlook. With this in mind, though, it's important to recognize that being a dog owner requires a higher level of care, especially during Halloween. Assisi Animal Health will be able to agree, which is why it's important to focus on these 3 tips for future Halloweens to come.

First of all, you have to make note of the fact that candy is not for dogs to eat. Assisi Animal Health will be able to agree, especially when you consider that dark chocolate and chocolate, in general, is likely to be given out during Halloween. Dark chocolate, especially, is harmful to dogs and should not be consumed by them. Make sure that you keep your candy out of reach of dogs so that their overall health will be made better as a result.

Dog costumes are popular but no one should overlook the idea of comfort. You have to keep in mind that your dog will show signs of discomfort, at the onset, if the costume he or she wears is not exactly suited for them. If your choice of costume obstructs movement, breathing, and the like, your dog will let you know through their actions. Focus on other options, since it's likely that your first choice will not exactly be the most comfortable one.

For families, make sure that your dog is up to taking extensive walks during trick-or-treating trips. Keep in mind that not all dogs are the same; there are some who will be able to take care of themselves during these walks while others, for the most part, are about as close to anxious as could be imagined. If the sights of bright lights and various costumes scares your dogs, there's nothing wrong with keeping them at home. Just make sure that there's another person watching them.

To say that Halloween is a fun time would be an understatement, though this holiday will be taken differently for some compared to others. This is especially true for dogs, which is where the care given by pet owners must come into effect. Whether you find that your dog is capable or incapable of holding their own in these busy situations, your judgment is going to be crucial. Focus on the aforementioned points so that, in time, you'll become a better pet owner, during Halloween and otherwise.
