Paver Patios Are Still So Popular

By Mia Kent

Paver patios are a beautiful addition to every home. No matter the size of your garden, you will find a little place to set this practical and decorative element of landscape design. Paving can use brick, stone or concrete paver. Great choice of colors and sizes will allow adjustment to any space.

If you have the will and time, you can quickly and easily set up your own patio. This is not an over-investment, and greatly contributes to the appearance of your garden. Of course, the best solution is to hire an experienced craftsman to do it, but if you have experience in similar projects, you can do it yourself. You can create your own design, or hire a landscape architect to do it for you.

Choose a place for your new patio and think about its shape and size. You can use different materials for this purpose, depending on your taste, and the amount of money you are willing to spend. Stone and bricks are always popular, although you will find great looking concrete paver pieces as well.

Stone blocks are expensive, but they really look amazingly good in every garden. Stone blocks are available in numerous colors and shades, and can be combined. Bricks are cheaper, and look equally attractive, especially if they fit into your existing exterior decoration. For this particular purpose you should use special paver bricks.

Once you buy your pavers, you need to obtain enough gravel and sand as well. You will also need weed control landscape fabric, and some tools. Shovels, strings and hammers are essential. You probably have all the tools required at your home, and some can be bought or rented.

The procedure is as follows: mark the edges of the future suffer and dig a hole in the ground, deep enough for a layer of crushed stone, sand layer and the thickness of the material for paving. First you need to set up a layer of landscape fabric, followed by a layer of gravel. This layer should be compacted using a special machine that can be rented.

On the compacted layer of crushed stone, you need another layer of landscape fabric. This will prevent the sand to pass into the gravel. After that, you need to set a sand layer that you also need to flatten and compact. Now you may set the edge pavers, and then all the others. Make sure to leave a little space in between, which will be filled with sand.

Once the setup is complete, apply sand using a broom on the entire surface. It is good to use a special polymeric sand which, in contact with water, creates a strong bond between the blocks. Remove any excess sand and spray water on the surface. Your work is done, and now you can enjoy. Paver patios are simple to set up and will really enhance the look and functionality of your garden.
