Have Fun Collecting Breyer Horses

Collecting Breyer horses is a wonderful hobby. It can keep children busy for hours as they tend for their stable full of models. Practically every breed of horse and pony is represented and these beautifully designed scale models have been created with a real eye for detail. It is a great honor for any famous competition horse to be produced in Breyer form.

The animals have been made for many years and the company has stayed true to its extremely high quality and craftsmanship. The horse figures are made in a mold, and then finished carefully to remove any seams. There various markings such as socks, blazes and other colorings are added at the end of production.

Each year limited edition models are produced that are much sought after by serious collectors. They feature an particular breed and are very accurately produced. The models are a great way for children to learn the characteristics of each breed and type of horse. There are specially produced models that are given as prizes at the annual Breyerfest. These are highly desirable on account of their limited numbers.

The standard models are made to 1:9 scale. They measure about eleven inches long and eight inches high. The smaller models known as the classics are dollhouse scale and can fit into the specially made barns. They provide years of creative entertainment to children and are the perfect way to introduce children to the fun of collecting.

The models make wonderful gifts for horse crazy youngsters and can quickly develop into a fun hobby. There are many great accessories such as barns, tack and grooming tools. The horse figures are a great way for children to have hours fun and dream about owning their own horse. They can give their models names and personalities.

The huge yearly event known as Breyerfest began in 1990 and is held at the world famous Kentucky Horse Park. It runs for three days and offers the opportunity to trade, sell and buy models. There are also highly competitive classes to show model horses. The two most popular categories are the Live show in which the horse is judge on all sides. The photo show category is less demanding as the horse is only inspected from one side.

Breyer horses are well made and will last for many years. They also offer excellent value for money and are the perfect way to start children off with a collection they can really play with and not just look at. Children love to give their favorite horse or pony a name and its own unique set of characteristics.
