Pack Lightly and Choose Versatile Outfits for Both Night and Day

By Catherine McCulloch

When it comes to holiday wear, it can be difficult to figure out what to wear. As such, the easiest way of planning a holiday wardrobe is to pick pieces that are multifunctional, and can be worn by the pool or on the beach by day, and transformed into a classy evening outfit when the sun goes down - and disguising cheap holidays as five-star breaks.

Choose floaty dresses or skirts for during the day, which can really make all the difference in hot or humid temperatures. It's an easy way to keep cool while looking chic and put together at the same time. Pop a jacket in your bag for the evening, and opting for a denim or leather cover up can really dress up your overall look at night too, so you needn't go all the way back to your hotel to change.

Picking the right footwear is always a challenge. Stick to comfortable flip flops or flat sandals, which are versatile for both night and day, unlike trainers which can also get a bit sweaty. But be sure to break them in before your holiday as the heat can instigate blisters, which could ruin your entire day out. But be sure to pack extra plasters just in case you do end up with some as they might not be as accessible when you get there.

Playing with your hair and make-up is another great way to go from day to night. Carry a tube of lipstick to smack on your lips in the evening and put your hair up in a tight bun, giving you an effortlessly chic look. If lipstick's not your thing, then be sure to carry some eyeliner with you at all times.

When it comes to bags, be sure to bring a big one as you can fit as much stuff in it as possible. Be sure to bring something warm to wear for later in case the breeze picks up and the temperature drops, which can often happen in a Mediterranean climate. It's also smart to take a small travel brush and essential pieces of make up for a quick touch up before your evening meal.
