Going down the Nerf isle you expect to see lots of guns, but nothing like this. Nerf isn't in the habit of making anything other than foam dart shooting guns. The Big Bad Bow, however, is an exception. In the early days of Nerf, they also released a bow and arrow set similar (but less advanced) than this one. The Big Bad Bow shoots large foam dart arrows. It's nice to see them bring the bow back and bring it up to date.
The size of the bow itself is over two feet tall. Because of it's size, it works best with older children (or grown up children, A.K.A. adults). Small children may have trouble shooting it. Out of the box, there is a small amount of assembly required, although it is fairly self explanatory. It shouldn't be difficult to put together, even for most children.
For anyone that is interested in unconventional weaponry and wants to try something else besides the average dart gun, the Big Bad Bow is a great option. It brings a taste of archery to a Nerf war.
The small foam darts are very easy to lose, that goes without saying. One positive about the Big Bad Bow is that the large arrow darts are much easier to find and not lose in every nook and cranny in your house. If you do happen to lose one, you can buy replacements.
There are a few features to this bow. To help you aim, there is a scope. The bow comes with three arrows, two of which can be attached to the top of it so you can quickly load it. It goes without saying that this is one of Nerf's most unique toy weapons.
So far Nerf has made guns that shoot soft foam darts, balls, and arrows. The bow and arrow offers a different kind of play than the usual gun. Imagine having a war where everyone used a bow instead of the dart guns. Or you could use a bow against others, like cowboys vs Indians.
