Hotels In Sydney Australia - A Luxurious Sleep After An Adventurous Day

By Fraser Brown

When you vacation at breathtaking Australia you may be tempted to reserve an economy hotel with dorm-style rooms and cramped beds. After your day in the Outback watching fresh water crocodiles, or diving the Great Barrier Reef, perhaps it would be exquisite to rest your weary body in one of the luxury hotels in Sydney Australia.

Service at the Shangri-La, number 5 on the top 5 list, is top priority. This exceptional 563 room hotel is contemporary in its Eastern decor with spacious rooms, and large luxurious beds. A first-class restaurant and bar on the high on the 36th floor proffer astounding views, and the hotel offers a world-class spa, health club, and fitness center.

Lavishness in the Regency style marks number 4 on our list - The Observatory Hotel. This elegant hotel is tucked away on a side street, away from the hustle and bustle of the Rocks district in Sydney. Rooms are spacious and feature marble and glass bathrooms with oversize tubs. Slippers and robe are thoughtfully provided. You'll find the modern niceties inside the cabinets - hidden away to maintain the ambiance. The observatory offers a heated pool, day spa, tennis court and gym - and welcomes children and small pets.

The Blue Sydney comes in at number 3 on our list with a customer rating of 18 out of 20. The Blue is located on an old wharf which extends out over the water in Woolloomooloo, providing excellent views of the marina, the city and the Harbour. Rooms at the Blue are loft-style with plush king beds roosting above the living area. While other high-class hotels have selected sparse Asian or Eastern-themed decor, the Blue has chosen a riot of colors and textures, opting for dark brown sued rather than black leather, for instance. The effect is stunning and quite sets the Blue apart from its contemporaries. With several much sought-after restaurants and bars situated right there on the wharf, you don't even have to set foot on land to have a great time.

Number 2 on the list is the Medusa Hotel. Peculiar yet stylish, this 18th century Victorian townhome is located in Sydney's boutique district. If the exterior is Victorian, the interior will shock you. Bold, and modern - the Medusa takes pride in drawing young and creative types to is brilliantly decorated rooms. King and Queen beds, and marble-and-glass bathrooms make this hotel dramatic and vibrant. The Medusa, however is simply a place to lay your head between adventures. As a converted townhome, it boasts no restaurant, no bar, no shops - though there are plenty of those in the surrounding Darlinghurst neighborhood.

Topping our list at number 1 is The Establishment Hotel. Customers rate this establishment at a whopping 19. This place might just be ideal with its fresh flowers, massage services and Egyptian cotton sheets. The Egyptian is not only located conveniently, but offers some of the best night-life opportunities in the city in its three nightclubs and posh restaurants. Don't be concerned by the long lines at the clubs - hotel guests glide past in an instant.

Not mentioned in our top 5 countdown is the Park Hyatt Sydney. This isn't because it's not a world-class hotel - some would argue it's the most impressive hotel in all of Australia. It's simply because none of its clients had used the rating system. The Park Hyatt looks across Sydney Cove, and is a more subtle structure than its name and reputation would demand. Don't let the facade fool you - true beauty is on the inside. Rooms are large and spacious, decorated in the calming European earth tones that are so classic. You may want to watch the Sharp LCD television, but discover that the remote opens the drapes to the window facing the water. Not many people could be distracted by a TV after that. With remote-control draperies, 24-hour butler service, and first-class restaurant and bar, it's possible there's nothing left to be desired.

It's the vacation of a lifetime with adventures just waiting for you as you voyage to the underside of the world. Sure - any cut-rate hotel room would suffice, probably. But maybe this is your chance to revel in luxury.
