Wrist watches are timepieces worn around wrists to serve various functions. They are tied around the arm using two bands originating from the case. The casing which encloses all working mechanisms can be made from different materials like metal, plastic, alloys, and resin. Quartz wrist watch comprises of several features that allow them to do more functions than just showing time to the wearer.

Wrist watches have other uses besides being convenient timepieces. They are important fashion accessories used in various occasions. First, antique wrist and pocket watches are jewelry or collectible works of art appreciated worldwide. This has created expensive and cheap markets for the products in different places around the world. Formal and semi-formal attire men watches have golden parts and the bodies are thin with plain designs.

There are a few factors to be considered when buying a timepiece. The factors include price, style, brand, life expectancy, maintenance, water resistance, bracelet, place of purchase, and size. Advertisements from manufacturers, number of jewels within the device, and internal working mechanisms should not be given much weight when buying items costing less than 10, 000 US Dollars.

Prices vary from one product to another. Low-end products cost less than 200 US Dollars while moderate ones range between 300 to 700 US Dollars in price. 1000USD and above is the cost for most high-end timepieces. Expensive models comprise of specially developed tungsten. The cases are made of gold, platinum or other precious metals and are always mechanical. Automatic quartz watches are moderately priced and are made from materials like stainless steel, caoutchouc, carbon fiber, titanium, and leather. They mostly go with casual wear.

Watches are also categorized into styles. Major styles are dress or classic, sports, and designer. Classic styles come with thin casings and are simple and plain. Gold is used to make the case and the bands and markings are made thick and bold. Designer models are produced by individuals who hold a worldwide reputation in watch making. They are often unique and unusual. Sports models have bezels with prominent markings and are large in size and resistant to water.

The place a watch is purchased is also very important. Most prestigious brands cannot be purchased from any other place if not from the authorized dealers. Internet sources should not be considered when buying high-end brands. The internet should only serve as a source of information on the kind of item needed but the purchases should all be from approved dealers. Online stores and retail sites are sources to avoid.

Most mechanical models have infinite life expectancy. However, quartz watches have limited life because of their components. Parts wear out after some time and must be replaced for the item to continue working correctly. It is important to consider the parts because some parts do not have replacements and can be a real problem. The life of most devices is limited by parts.

One should choose an item that fits well on the hand. The face should have a reasonable size. Big faces go well with big-bodied people while small ones suit small-bodied individuals better.
