During his lifetime, Mandela has been awarded with hundreds of honors and awards. Mandela was also an honorary member of Manchester United, Honorary citizen of Canada and honorary member of British Labour Party. When serving his term in prison, Mandela is known to have been housed in a 2M by 2.5M cell. This room is considered to have contained nothing more than a bucket for sanitation and bedroll on the floor. As part of his imprisonment, Mandela was consigned to hard tasks such as working on a lime quarry. He was also only permitted to one letter and visitor after each six months.

Each of these facts explains the life of Mandela during and after he became the first president of South Africa. Besides these facts, Mandela has gained lots of popularity due to his hard work and efforts to change South Africa from what it was to a new state where apartheid is no more.
