Nicholas Cage's Best Performances In The Last Two Decades

By Adam Phillips

If you want to talk about prolific actors who continue to churn out movies year after year, Nicholas Cage has to be at the top of the list. Sure, the guy has found himself in financial difficulties, which may help to explain his current splurge of roles in a new movie almost every two months, but the guy can act and remains one of my favorite actors.

Here are some the greatest Nicholas Cage movies from the past two decades.

The Rock is probably my favorite film on this list, for its pure enjoyment factor. Cage was perfect for this movie, as the nerdy and preoccupied Dr. Stanley Goodspeed. This is probably my favorite movie to quote with friends.

Another great Nicholas Cage film came out recently to limited release. That movie was none other than Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call, New Orleans. Sure, it's a wordy title, but don't let that stop you from seeing this dark film in which Cage plays one of the most corrupt cops I've ever seen.

A movie that came out earlier this year (2010) that was incredibly enjoyable was Kickass. Nicholas Cage played a superhero in this film, but one thing I loved about this marketing campaign was that it never credited Cage as being the star of the film.

Face Off is another movie that I certainly have to mention. Directed by John Woo, this movie stars Travolta and Cage as a cop and villain respectively, but then both undergo a series of operations to switch identities. Great action and fight scenes ensue.

One film that I certainly have to mention on this list is the movie that won Nicholas Cage an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and that film was none other than Leaving Las Vegas. This film is categorized as drama/romance, but spans beyond its genre.

Finally, one other movie that most people didn't care for, but I will mention is Windtalkers. I thought this one was good, but for whatever reason I am in the minority.
