What Flowers Convey To People

By Florian Coleman

Flowers speak a universal language. In most nations of the world, flowers are used to express human emotions like happiness, grief, caring and regret. They are a lovely and effective means of expressing feelings and emotions without words. However all flowers do not mean the same thing. Each flower communicates a unique meaning and you need to know that meaning before presenting a flower to any one.

Associating meanings with different flowers is a well practised system known as floriography. The event and the intended message assume prime significance in the Western culture when people think about gifting flowers to others.

Red roses are accepted expressions of love and passion, on the other hand, white roses denote purity and pink ones stand for lasting friendship. You can reconcile with a disgruntled friend by gifting him white tulips, as tulips denote forgiveness. Lilies are classy flowers that stand for vigour, charm and festivity. A bouquet of Yarrow along with a 'get well soon' card can put a smile on your ailing friend's countenance, whereas a bouquet of Azalea can turn out to be lucky for your companion who is starting a new business. But, not all flowers convey positive messages. For instance, a bunch of lavender blossoms generally expresses distrust.

There are especially a lot of flowers for lovers to select from, each conveying a unique mood or feeling. The various moods of romance can be best expressed by flowers like Violets and Daisies.

There is another important aspect to be noted before giving flowers as gifts. Different cultures have attributed different meanings to flowers. If the person you are giving the flowers to belongs to another nation or culture, you must first know what importance the flower has in that specific nation or culture before gifting it to him or her. Drawing an entirely negative response from the recipient is something that you would certainly not want.
