Choosing Lenses For DSLR Cameras

By Mike Thompson

A large number of people absolutely adore their cameras since the image quality you can get from them is unrivalled. The hard part with such cameras is having to decide what lenses to buy for them as each camera requires a certain criteria to be fulfilled. Here, we will tell you exactly what you should look for in digital camera lenses.

First thing you must remember is most companies do not make lenses that are compatible with any other camera, like the Canon t3i bundle, than their own! So ensure that the lens you are buying is compatible with your specific camera!

There is a lot of technical jargon when it comes to purchasing a camera lens, so here's a quick walkthrough. Depending on what you want, like image quality or a high zooming ability, these are the things you should weigh against each other as this will be the main factor when it comes to buying the lens.

Lenses range in focal lengths and as such, there are lenses in the mid range or standard lengths being anywhere between 35mm to 80mm. This is actually equivalent to what the human eye can see.

Having a shorter focus length means you will be able to capture wider views, hence the term wide angle lens. This is quite different from a mid range range since not only will the view be narrower but the image quality is also not as great with these lenses either.

If you have a clear idea of what you intend to use your camera for, you will be able to find lenses that are not just compatible with your camera, but are also compatible with your photography experience. The question, will you need to shoot objects that are extremely close or at a large distance away? If you intend to take far away shots, then perhaps a zooming lens is best for you. In other words, you need to find out what your needs are before choosing the lens.

Having a "wide-angle zoom" lens, not only will you pay the higher range of prices, as the lens will probably equate to the same amount as your camera value brand new! The results are excellent, as your pictures will be wide, and will demonstrate the difference without hesitation.

If you will be using your camera lens for portraits or low-lit areas then you will be able to gather a much narrower view on focus. Therefore your image quality will be absolutely top of the range and like no other, all you need is the photography skills to accompany it!

Finding great deals on brand new DSLR lenses shouldn't be that hard either. eBay and second hand stores or websites should have them. Also, don't throw away your old lenses since if they are compatible with your newer camera, then you can save quite a lot of money using the old one.
