Great Ideas For Custom Made Gifts

By Chloe Gib

Birthdays and weddings, and other special occasions often leave us feeling like the right gift is impossible to find. It may even seem that one needs to spend huge amounts of money to get something great, but that does not have to be the case. Even the simplest custom made gifts can become very sentimental and forever appreciated by the receiver.

Personalized name pillows are a good option in a number of situations. They make a great addition to bedrooms, and can provide some extra comfort and a sense of ownership and safety in the bedroom of a child. Making a name pillow is usually quite a simple craft project with great results, regardless of the occasion.

There are so many different options if you decide to try your own pillow project. Just about any fabrics can be used, depending on the intended purpose. Keep in mind who will be using the pillow and where when choosing fabric types and colors. A patchwork pillow adds a unique character and different techniques can be used for applying the name, such as printing or embroidering, among others.

Custom monogramming is another fabulous way to personalize gifts and accessories. A monogram is an artistic design, usually made up of three letters to create a symbol that represents an individual. Usually the surname initial of the person will be in the center of the design with the first name initials slightly smaller and placed on either side.

Some couples who are getting married will have a monogram designed which combines both of their initials. The format of such a design will depend on whether they will be taking on the same surname and which of their own initials they choose to use. This symbol can then be embroidered onto matching towels or pillows. Embossed tags for luggage can also be made using the unique monogram.

Mugs with printed monograms often make thoughtful gifts. One could also use frosted monograms to add a special touch to glassware. Some couples may frost wine glasses as their wedding favors for guests to take home with them. For graduations or twenty first birthday gifts, and engraved stationary set or key will also be a special gift.

One can also take on a crafty handmade project to make that extra special present. A unique hand painted jewelry box or knitted scarf will have sentimental value over and above the practical thoughtfulness. A scrapbook is also a great gift to give a close friend or family members with whom you may have shared many memories. Just be creative and look for ideas and inspiration anywhere you can and a great idea will dawn on you in no time.
