Do You Consume Too Much Electricity Without Intending To?

By Peter Chachi

Each time I ask this question of anyone, they always get extremely defensive, saying that they don't use up too much electricity. The reality is that everyone ends up using too much electricity whether they know it or not. In this article, we will discuss several ways people use up too much electric energy and don't even realize that they are doing it.

With having simple accessibility to specifics of numerous ways to going green concerns, there's simply no justification for not finding the right way to make any difference in the planet now. Both men and women are every bit as guilty so let's talk about an electricity wasting habit of women to start. Usually a load of laundry will sit in the dryer for several hours after it has dried. At that point, individuals (including men) will go over to the dryer, open the door and see that many of the clothes are wrinkled. However, rather than merely taking the clothes that are wrinkled and ironing them, they turn the dryer back on for 30 minutes, hoping the wrinkles will vanish. A dryer is a power hog and switching it back on after your clothes are dry is squandering electricity.

Men have equally careless habits when it comes to consuming power. Men, for one reason or another, appear to possess a one track mind. Have you ever walked into the garage looking for your husband, and all the lights are turned on and the music is blaring, but he's nowhere in sight? Still, there's a much problem than this. Forgetting all about the lights they left on, and the radio, most men will go off to do something else for the remainder of the day. At least, until they have to return to the garage for something and then they realize that everything is still on.

Something I am guilty of, and I am sure 90% of you readers are guilty of as well, is leaving lights on. This may happen at night, but can likewise happen in the morning when you awaken and turn on lights because it is still dark outside. Of course, you need the lights to see so it's not a big problem at that point. When it gets light out, wasteful power consumption starts. It's not difficult to forget the lights are switched on until you leave the house. If you neglect to switch the lights off before you go somewhere, they can stay on for the entire the day, which consumes even more power.

By trying to be more sensible and careful about our use of electricity, we can do our part to help the environment and save a bit of money. Get used to turning off the lights each time you leave a room. One other good habit is to use an iron to touch up wrinkled clothes and leave the dryer off after the clothes finish drying. Make a habit of switching off the lights when you leave your garage, even if you're certain you'll return in a few minutes.
