All The Children Friendly Holidays We Celebrate

By Wendy Shand

We celebrate a number of different holidays through out each year and almost all of them are children friendly holidays. The reason the holidays are for our children is because as adults we have had our turn at being the children celebrating holidays and enjoying all the excitement. It is now time for us, as parents to give our kids holidays that they will enjoy and remember for years to come. Our children have a lot of fun during these holidays but they also learn valuable life lessons.

One such lesson would be the lesson of giving a gift is much better than getting a gift. Most children do not understand this for a few years but there are some kids that grasp that concept very early on in life. If your child understands this at a young age then you are a lucky parent. Most kids take years to learn this.

Christmas is a very kid friendly holiday. We buy our children lots of toys and fill their stockings with goodies. Another great holiday for children is Easter. Children love coloring the Easter eggs and then hunting for them. They get to dress up in their prettiest clothes and wake up to an Easter basket that the Easter bunny left for them.

The whole family can enjoy Easter together. Watching your children as they race around trying to find all the hidden Easter eggs is an amazing sight. That is an innocent and pure moment in your child's life. Now we move on to yet another child friendly holiday which would be Halloween. Kids love to pick out their costumes and get dressed up as someone or something different. Trick or treating is also a lot of fun for the kids but as parents we must be careful. There are people in this world that would hurt our children if they had the chance. We have to supervise them closely on this holiday.

The best thing to do when you trick or treat is stay in a well lit neighborhood that you know well. You can even go to churches to trick or treat. A lot of churches are doing a thing where the church members pass out candy in the church parking lot from the trunks of their cars.

This is much safer than walking dark streets with your children at night and asking strangers for candy. We tell our children to never take candy from a stranger and to never go to a strangers home but on Halloween we make an exception, why is that?

Jewish kids have a holiday they celebrate it is called Hanukkah. This Holiday last eight nights and eight days. The kids get a gift each night of Hanukkah. They light the hanukkiyah to celebrate their holiday. This is lit every single night for the entire eight nights. Children play a game called dreidel during this holiday, it is quite popular in the Jewish community.

They also eat fried foods during this holiday because Hanukkah celebrates the miracle of oil. There are a number of holidays that are kid friendly. We as parents do our part to make sure our kids have the best holiday's possible. Even if we can not give them what they really want we always try our best. If you ask your child what their favorite holiday is a good percent of them will answer Christmas or Hanukkah, but that is because you, their parents make it special for them.
