Here Comes the Fall: Inexpensive Ways to Decorate for the Year's Most Colorful Season

By Adam Ciboch

When most people think of Fall, they think of vibrant colors splashed throughout trees and brisk air fended off with long-sleeved jackets for only a short time before the days become colder. This is also a prime opportunity to get creative within the walls of your own home. You don't even have to break the bank to decorate for Fall. You'll want to spend as much times indoors as you do outside in short order if you check out these inexpensive tips for decorating your home.

The first thing to note is that inexpensive isn't synonymous with plastic. When you can purchase something authentic for next to nothing, why buy something fake? No matter where you live, small pumpkins and gourds can be purchased for generally under $5. These commonly come in sets, so you can save money without having to buy them on an individual basis. Window ledges, countertops and shelves all provide great places where these colorful items can be made into centerpieces. The rustic and homey sense you can derive from them makes them a perfect Fall feature.

In the same vein, so do multi-colored leaves. These won't even cost you a penny. Simply go out to your backyard and take a few samples. Leaves tend to dry quickly and sometimes even curl once they've fallen off their tree source. To avoid this, rub some moisturizer on the front and back of each leaf and set it out to dry. This also ensures that the leaves will keep their color for the entirety of the season. You can scatter these around your pumpkin and gourd centerpiece or on any place that has a ledge. Fireplace mantles can be quite appropriate. Tree branches also add an effective and authentic look.

Consider purchasing a few more cute and tiny pumpkins if you're a Halloween lover who wants a little more ambiance as October 31 approaches. Carve out a hole at the top with a small knife so some inexpensive black candles can be placed in their centers. There you are! Once the lights are turned off and they're lit, you've got yourself a hand-made candle-holder that's sure to set the mood.

These are just a few of many inexpensive or, in some cases, free ways to liven up your home to celebrate the Fall season and its holidays. By using the natural beauty of the season's own colorful creations to decorate your home, you'll be sure to make a setting that is effectively ambient, and without even breaking the bank.
