What To Understand About Cattleya Orchids

By Sandra Jackson

These plants are known for their ability of flowering. They produce beautifully colored flowers on different periods of the year. Although, their flowering may be associated with different factors such as day length. The light and temperature are the major factors that determine the flowering ability of this kind of plants. The below article represents some of the general information that a person should know concerning Cattleya orchids.

Adequate light and temperature. These two conditions are important for the growth and blooming of this kind of plants. The light exposure should be sufficient to provide enough lighting to promote their pale yellow color. This is the healthy color appearance of the plants. The light also should not be excess to avoid damaging and burning the leaves. The temperatures should be at minimum degrees of 55 during the day. It should range from 65 to 85 and a night temperature of above 60.

Watering periods. The interval of watering should not be too far or too close. Depending on humidity, these intervals should vary. In humid environments, the watering should be done on a few periods per time to allow dryness between ranges. On less humid, these intervals should be closer. The dryness is important to observe to ensure pests and fungal infections are eliminated. This is why clay pot containers are advisable for their growing.

Fertilizer application. Although this is not very important, fertilizer application is advised for good and healthy growth. There are different fertilizers available, but the best is important for the promotion of bloom and growth. The fertilizer to be applied need to be as dilute as possible. It should also be applied on the periods of watering. Flushing is done with clear water between the application of fertilizer.

Periods of flowering. The flowering frequency tends to vary depending on the environmental changes experienced in their growing environment. Temperature ranges, light exposure to them are some of those biotic factors affecting their growth and flowering. The periods of day length also affect this process. These factors too are essential to eliminate the chances of fungal infections.

The reporting process. These plants are usually reported after a given period. This reporting is necessary to ensure the roots does not overgrow to the outside of the pot. The facility is divided into at least three parts using its root system. These different portions are planted into separate containers. This ensures the plant is rejuvenated and no death is observed. The reporting process is also necessary to ensure continuity.

Fungal diseases and pests. Pests are not a common phenomenon for these plants. Different infections may be experienced according to the care taken on these plants. If they are kept clogged for long periods then, the fungal disease can be a problem to them.

Blooming and pruning processes. These two are very dependent on each other. The blooming process is important to ensure success in the life cycle of the plant. These two are dependent on each other and may tend to vary. The pruning should be done to promote reblooming.
