Guidelines For Using A Pruning Pole Saw

By Carolyn Hill

When you want to cut down a tree with a thick stem, you will opt to use a saw as it is efficient for this. Sometimes, however, you may not have access to the saw at the time. In such circumstances you may choose to use the pruning pole saw to do the work.

Here are some guidelines on how to efficiently and safely use the saw to achieve good cuts up to fourteen feet. Bear in mind that operating on high trees is dangerous. When using the pole saw, it is important reading all the precautions. This will ensure that you are ready for the job.

Professionals attach ropes to the vines especially if they are thick and heavy. The ropes are to aid the descent of the tree to avoid injuries. The thicker a tree is, the more the work for the professionals in bringing it down. On your own, you may not be able to use the ropes thus the tree will fall on its own. You thus need to be extra cautious. It is also advisable not to prune near power lines. One should also note that to use a pole saw to work at eight feet height is tiresome due to the need of using extensions.

The first tip to adhere to when pruning is that you should provide a clean working area. Prevent people from entering the area. Any hazards such as fallen wood should be cleared from the area. You should notice any hazards that cannot be moved like exposed tree roots. In case something goes wrong, you should quickly run for safety.

Pruning is not done anyway; plans are made in advance. Initially, the branch to be removed, has some of its small branches cut off to reduce its weight before the final cut. Often the branch is cut horizontally. During the final cut, start from the top side of the branch. When you need to make a jump cut using the saw, cut the vines underside.

Another thing that you should know is how to position the saw when cutting. You should hold the saw using both hands and place it vertically on the tree. When you are confident that you can control the weight of the tool, you should then place it where you want to cut and then make the cut.

You should also consider your position when making a cut. Be in a position where it will be easy for you to control your weight. Also, ensure that you make the right adjustments on the pole so that it is the right length. In case the saw moves sideways, always ensure that you adjust it to the right position before you go on. Always be careful so that you avoid any accidents.

Finally, clear up the working space by collecting all the fallen branches and leaves. This is very important especially if another cut is to be made to avoid future injuries during the operation. If you have any doubts and issues, you want to be resolved it is better to consult an experts advice. By following the above, you are sure to carry out a successful pruning.
