Different Options For Senior Housing New Jersey

By Jayne Rutledge

Taking care of seniors is not easy. They require extra basic and medical care. Based on the health status of the seniors, their ability to move as well as the need for a home-care, you can choose the senior housing New Jersey option that will suit your needs. There are many options available and below are some of them.

Independent living community facility requires no payment for maintenance. The elderly people who are found in this facility are active and independent. The older people who are found here are able to take care of themselves but the community comes in provision of services such as meals, laundry, security, pools, transportation, fitness centers and many other services they may require.

Another option is the assisted living. Seniors living in an assisted community do not require skilled medical services like that of a nursing home though they have problems living independently and they do not have the needed support to live at home. In assisted living, the community provides three meals each day in a common dining area and the seniors are helped to do various activities like bathing, laundry, housekeeping, managing medication and staff availability and 24-hours security. The community also provides access to healthcare services together with medical assistance and supervision.

The other option is known as continuing care retirement. This is basically an amalgamation of the assisted living, skilled nursing services and independent living. Though services may vary, the most common ones are garden maintenance, laundry, home maintenance, housekeeping and 24-hours security. Seniors in this community also enjoy other services such as swimming, tennis, golf and exercise. There are also other recreational and social activities. Only this option offers the seniors legal agreement to provide seniors with services and housing for life.

Nursing homes are meant for seniors who need full-time care. To be accepted in a nursing home, the seniors are required to have a physician order. These homes offer 24-hour medical and nursing care as well as personal care like bathing, dressing, toileting and eating. The physical care includes speech therapy, social activities and occupational therapy. The seniors are given three meals daily which are served in the dining area or at the seniors room.

They are two categories of nursing homes which include intermediate care and skilled care facilities. The main difference arises with the time of nursing supervision. In intermediate care nursing supervision is from eight hours or even more but in skilled nursing its nursing supervision is done full time. The governing of nursing homes is through regulations for they are legal and acquire licensing from the state.

Memory care or Alzheimer is the other available option which can be set up through the assistance of the community or it can be a private facility. They cater for people with memory loss or other kinds of disorders which are related to dementia. Services provided here, assist in improvement of the seniors life quality.

Hospice care as an option for senior housing New Jersey is meant for people who are diagnosed with terminal illness. This kind of care can also be provided at home or in a nursing home. Hospice care covers nursing and medical care, therapy, spiritual, emotional and bereavement support.
