Colours are an amazing thing, very few things can draw feelings or have associations with it. That's why its important to be careful when picking colours for your scrapbook.
Picking Colours For Events
Events regularly have colours associated with them. Cast your mind to St Patrick's Day or Halloween, its not difficult to identify what colours these events are linked with.
But there also are other life events that colours get associated with like weddings or graduations.
As an example, in several schools and universities students wear a black gown when they graduate. Usually these gowns have a second colour associated with it that shows which faculty or school the student belongs to.
These should be things to consider if you're working on an event based scrapbook like a wedding or high school scrapbook.
Moods
Colour can influence moods. Brighter colours are usually linked with stronger emotions, while darker colours in general represent the calmer, more delicate states of mind.
Red is a great example. Red is the colour of romance, anger and love. All very powerful emotions that can radically effect how somebody acts or reacts.
On the opposite end of the spectrum we have blue, the colour of relaxation, deep thought and unhappiness. Blue usually is used to help folk relax and frequently has a soothing effect. The darker the blue, the more soothing it feels.
Colours In Other Cultures
You need to also consider the cultural background of your intended audience when picking colours.
If you were to make a marriage album, you would naturally be using a lot of different shades of white. To a westerner this is the colours of the brides dress and represents innocence and purity.
But, if this was intended to for a Chinese or Japanese audience, it will actually represent mourning and loss - something that you definitely wouldn't want to be linked with a marriage.
It usually pays to do your homework when you are making an album for an audience of a different cultural background.
So there are some things to consider when you're considering colours for your next album.
