Buy Sod If You Want A Green Lawn

By Michelle Howe

When spring and summer roll around everybody starts thinking about their yards. Getting their grass to grow can often be the most difficult thing for people to accomplish. They have the choice of planting seeds or to go out and buy sod. They usually start with the seed however because they think that sod is too expensive.

People will sometimes avoid sod because they think it is too expensive. These are the same people who do not realize what they are spending on trying to grow grass from seed because they do not take the time to add up all of their supplies. It is not easy to grow grass from seed, especially if there are children involved.

Growing from seed is a difficult process. Of course the first step is to wait until the right time of year. When that finally arrives the next step is to prepare the dirt or the spots that you will plant and the lay it all out. That is of course, after you have purchased bags of the stuff. Don't forget the spreader because doing it by hand is never recommended.

That does not mean that you cold not do it by hand, because you could. They just want you to buy a spreader because they say it drops and spreads the seeds in an even patter and almost assures that you will have an evenly spread out grass when it finally grows. Of course that is the part that still remains to be seen.

After spending all of that money you have to wait and water and pray. If after a couple weeks you start seeing sprouts you have to make sure you keep up your routine. If you miss a day of watering it could spell disaster for your yard to be. Then you will have to keep everyone from walking on it. If you are planting your entire yard that can be a difficult proposition.

No matter what you do you will still have to keep people off the grass. So that means your yard will be out of commission for most of the Summer. That is ok for next year but if you want to have a barbeque or any other yard parties this year you can forget it. Of course if you get sod you can walk on it right away.

When you buy sod you will still need to water the lawn a lot but you can use the yard right away. The crew will come out and lay it down for you and it will not take very long. If you want to save some money you can do it yourself. It is not very hard and is something you can do in one afternoon.

When you finally decide that your experiment with the seeds is over it might be time to just break down and buy sod. It will require a lot of water, just like the previous method but you will not have all of the other concerns. On top of it all the grass will already be grown and adult. You will finally have the lawn you wanted.
